Comet 3I/ATLAS passes perihelion

Comet 3I/ATLAS passes perihelion – 29 Oct 2025

Comet 3I/ATLAS will make its closest approach to the Sun on 29 October 2025, at a distance of 1.36 AU.

From New Delhi, it will not be easily observable on the day of perihelion since it will be very close to the Sun, at a separation of only 12° from it.

Comets are highly unpredictable in brightness because it depends on how much dust is released from their icy nucleus as they are heated by the Sun. This makes their brightness hard to estimate and variable, even between appearances.

Based on observations from amateur astronomers and the BAA Comet Section, it is estimated that the comet may be around magnitude 15 on 29 October 2025. You will need a telescope to see it.
