Show of the Shooting Stars

When to Watch:

The best times to observe the 2024 Eta Aquariid meteor shower are during the mornings of May 5 and 6, 2024, just before dawn. These times offer dark and moonless conditions, enhancing visibility. While the American Meteor Society predicts the peak to occur around 8:43 UTC on May 5, exact times may vary among experts. Additionally, heightened meteor activity can be expected several days before and after the peak. The new moon on May 8 ensures minimal moonlight interference, further improving viewing conditions.

Radiant:

The radiant of the shower will rise in the early hours and reach its highest point at dawn. This positioning makes pre-dawn the optimal time to observe the shower.

Duration of Shower:

The 2024 Eta Aquariid meteor shower spans from April 15 to May 27, offering ample opportunities for observation.

Expected Meteors at Peak, Under Ideal Conditions: In the southern half of the India, observers may see 30 to 50 meteors per hour under a dark sky with no moon, when the radiant is high in the sky. Regions farther south, such as those in the Southern Hemisphere, may experience two to three times that number.
